According to experts, the crisis may be the most unexpected impact on the state of modern sports. Strange sports get the chance to win popularity. This has already happened.
After World War I (the world while also experiencing an economic crisis), the situation was the same. In Paris in 1924 and in Berlin in 1936 there were still represented, respectively, rugby and polo, but then the “unusual” activities have disappeared from the program, displaced more than we are accustomed. The reason? The fact that all new sports at the formative stage is an amateur, which means that the sportsmen are willing to spend money on trips to competitions, not expecting favors from sponsors. No expensive fees and uniforms, which is also an additional advantage. Of course, the traditional under threat of financial crisis will not die. But for the alternative appeared an excellent opportunity to take the offensive on all fronts.
The first popular strange sports is dolphin racing. This unusual sport is popular in the U.S. cities having aquariums with dolphins. The person going into the “ride” must weight at leat 50 kilos. Usually these people are those working in the aquariums. They consider that kind of sport as a way to attract teh visitors and get some extra money.
Football in winter boots is the way to play football in winter on the fields covered with snow. The new sport was decided to be developed in Ulan-Ude, where on Dec. 13 for the second time was an open city championship. It brought together 20 teams of high schools and colleges, they played by the rules of mini-soccer (at a reduced field). The only condition: all the participants felt boots were supposed to be the same size.
Triatlon in the swamp. Includes a 12-mile jog on the road, the 19-mile veloturne cross country and swim 120 yards in a mud trench. All championship proceeds goes to charity, but winners receive trophies, and symbolic gifts.
Sauna competition. The Finns are known to be admirers of the sauna. They came up with the competition, whose goal is to sit out the contenders in the steam room. A risky sauna comp pastime is especially popular among the naturally persistent Scandinavians.
Crying Sumo Competition is conducted in parallel with the sumo contests. Involved in their children the wrestlers are usually under the age of one year. Naturally, young athletes are sitting at the hands of fathers. The winner is the one who cries first. No physical stimuli can be used, only persuasion and suggestion.
